Congratulations to all our students this year on their excellent acheivments within the department! Andrew Mullins was selected as the best MS Student, Chul Moon and Xinliang Zhang tied for the best beginning PhD student, and Fei Liu was selected as best Senior Student. Congratulations to our four statistics students who won the Outstanding TA Award. Statistics students Xianyan Chen, Xiaodong Jiang, Jerry Shi, and Yang Song were one of the five finalist teams in teh Capital One Contest. The team members, along with advisor, Jaxk Reeves, were invited to Capital One headquarters from April 20-22, 2016. Here, they presented their analysis and were named first place winners in the competition! Congratulations to these students and Dr. Jaxk Reeves for this great achievemnet! 
The year 2025 was a remarkable one for our graduate students — a year defined by creativity, hard work, and well-earned recognition. Luyang Fang, a fifth-year PhD student, received the prestigious James L. Carmon Scholarship, honoring her innovative use of computing in research. Dr. Yuan Ke, together with Prof. Runze Li (Pennsylvania State University) and Prof. Stéphane Guerrier (University of Geneva), received a new research award from the joint program of the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). We are pleased to have the department's capstone courses for our undergraduate majors in statistics and data science featured in Chronicles, the blog of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.  These courses provide great opportunities for our students to synthesize and extend their methodological knowledge and apply it to fascinating, real problems.  Read more here.
Recently, college students from around the state of Georgia participated in Avant South's Innovation Cup. Teams competed to build apps that will serve fans and visitors to the upcoming World Cup with features to promote local businesses, facilitate fan-to-fan experiences, engage with young users, and provide smart city navigation.
