Image: Please join us in congratulating our outstanding undergraduate student Sloka Sudhin, a junior from Marietta, Georgia double-majoring in data science and applied mathematics. Sloka is a Foundation Fellow, a Stamps Scholar, recipient of the Hollingsworth Award from the UGA Department of Mathematics, and is now a Goldwater Scholarship winner. The Goldwater Scholarship is the most prestigious undergraduate scholarship in the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering in America. Sloka was selected as one of 441 recipients of the Goldwater Scholarship in 2025, drawn from a pool of over 5,000 elite sophomores and juniors from across the US. Sloka's Goldwater award is based, in large part, on her undergraduate research activities with Drs. Abhyuday Mandal and Joshua Lukemire. In August 2022, she began a directed study on generalized linear models with Abhyuday, which eventually involved into studying optimization techniques and developing new optimization methods for identifying efficient experimental designs. For more on Sloka's award, see the UGAToday article here. Congratulations to Sloka for this tremendous accomplishment! Congratulations and appreciation are also due to Joshua Lukemire (BS in Statistics, UGA, 2015) and, especially, Abhyuday Mandal for mentoring and developing this talented student!
