We are extremely happy with Gauri Datta's election to the Fellowship in the Institute of Mathematical Statistics! This is a well deserved honor for his outstanding research and contributions to the profession.
The Department hosted the Symposium on New Directions in Asymptotic Statistics at the Georgia Center, May 15-16, 2009. The event was organized by T.N. Sriram and Ishwar Basawa. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this successful event!

Effective July 1, Dr. John Stufken has been reappointed as head of the Department for his third three year term. We congratulate Dr. Stufken on his outstanding administration of our department, and look forward to working with him in the coming years.
Congratulations to Nicole Lazar, who is the recipient of a 2010 Sandy Beaver Excellence in Teaching Award in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences for her outstanding accomplishments as an instructor. Well deserved Nicole!
