On Oct. 31, 2025, the Department of Statistics was pleased to again host Georgia Statistics Day (GSD). This conference was launched in 2015 as a joint effort by the UGA Department of Statistics, Emory University Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, and the Georgia Institute of Technology's H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering. These units have rotated the hosting of the event ever since, with a focus on bringing statisticians and data scientists together from the state of Georgia and the surrounding region. The conference places a strong emphasis on student participation and also aims to strengthen links between the participating institutions and industry. It features a large and lively student poster session as well as technical sessions that feature the latest research activities of the participants, as well as an Industry Session focused on careers and opportunities outside of academia.

The 2025 edition of GSD was a great success with a record number of participants, including attendees from UGA, Georgia Tech, Emory, Georgia State University, Clemson University, Augusta University, Ohio State University, the University of Michigan, JMP, and Unclaimed Property Consulting & Reporting (UPCR). A wonderful Keynote Lecture was provided by Dr. Liza Levina, Vijay Nair Collegiate Professor of Statistics at the University of Michigan.

The student poster session had great participation, with 52 students presenting their work, and lively engagement from the conference attendees. Congratulations to the following students for winning this year’s Best Student Poster Awards:
