Image: University of Georgia Statistics major, Rachel A. Zilinskas, has been selected for the 2017 CURO Summer Fellowship. Rachel has loved Statistics ever since she took her first Stat class in High School. She is currently working with Dr. Mandal studying experimental design and also a student in the Terry College of Business earning a degree in Risk Management and Insurance. She will be working with Dr. Abhyuday Mandal on his collaborative research project with Dr. Suraj Sharma in the Department of Textiles, Merchandising, and Interiors. In particular, Rachel will help the research group designing an experiment for optimizing the natural Indigo dye in the dyeing process of cotton fabrics using nanocellulose gels. She will also learn and apply advanced statistical techniques to analyze data. Rachel is a member of the UGA Women's Swimming and Diving team and has contributed to two NCAA National Championships with the team. She is also very involved in several organizations on campus including Student Athletic Advisory Committee, Leonard Leadership Scholars, Deer Run Fellows, Palladia, Sphinx, Team United Campus Athlete Ministry, and volunteering as a Religious Education teacher at the UGA Catholic Center. Aside from swimming and being involved on campus, Rachel also enjoys reading, art, cooking and baking, and spending time outdoors.
