Statistics minor

Statistics Minor

An undergraduate minor in statistics requires the completion of 15 semester hours of 4000-level statistics coursework. All coursework must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or higher, as required by the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, and should be taken at UGA. To enroll in a course that requires pre-requisite course(s), it is recommended that a student earns a grade of C or higher in the pre-requisite course(s).

Many 4000-level statistics courses have pre-requisites which must be satisfied before taking the course. Exceptions will not be made. The department recommends pre-requisites be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better.

Students planning to minor in statistics should declare the minor in Athena as soon as possible.

Students should plan on the statistics minor taking a minimum of four semesters to complete.

There are three required courses:

  • STAT 4210 or STAT 4110H
  • STAT 4230
  • STAT 4220

Students also select from 6 hours of 4000-level statistics electives.  The following courses do not fulfill statistics electives and will not apply as elective courses for the statistics minor: STAT 4050, STAT 4070, STAT 4530, STAT 4630, STAT 4640, STAT 4950 and STAT 5700.

Registration Note:

The statistics department has made efforts to increase the number of available seats and sections for statistics courses. However, because demand often exceeds available seats, registration priority for all 4000-level statistics courses is given to declared statistics majors and requires permission of department (PODs) register for these classes. This permission is not granted to non-statistics majors, regardless of registration time or status.

PODs are dropped the Monday following the opening of the last time ticket for the semester, to allow students from outside the statistics major to register for classes with open seats. Students must have the prerequisites to register. Exceptions will not be made.
